Adapted from the 1492 flag of Granada—a bleeding pomegranate, marking the expulsion of Jews and Moors from Spain—this flag repairs that wound. The pomegranate has been made whole, its seeds set free—symbolizing diaspora and the seeding of new worlds and new futures. Representing abundance and unity within multiplicity, the pomegranate is a symbol that connects Jews and Muslims, as well as many other identities, across centuries. The flag carries the phrase "Revolutionary Love" in four languages: الحب الثوري in Arabic, Amor Revolucionario in Spanish, and אהבה מהפכנית in Hebrew.

Founded by Tom Haviv in 2014, the Hamsa Flag Project was born out of a belief that in order for a shared society to emerge in Israel | Palestine, we need a shared symbol. The project explores new symbols of peace, reconciliation, and justice — reflecting the shared history of Jews, Muslims, and Arabs in the Middle East and North Africa. These flags are not tied to any nation, but rather are symbols of hybridity and possibility, aiming to inspire a world beyond war.
